neighbourhood

You know when you are having one of those days, where time escapes you, things that need to get done somehow don't, and all the sudden you realize you've been sitting in the same spot for wayyyyyyyyy to long. . . . . get out, go for a walk, get some air, find inspiration, read a book, go look at art. . . go do something, anything!!!
Well, that's when I usually wander around my neighbourhood!
I love roncesvalles!
the cheese at the thin blue line, the coffee at cherry bomb, amazing vintage finds along the way, and mostly walking into hawk eyes! The lovely Rachelle really knows her stuff, she is charming beyond belief and it's difficult walking out the door without a piece to add to your home! check out her blog!!!!!

Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival, celebrated primarily in the Canada and the United States. Traditionally, it is a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. While perhaps religious in origin, Thanksgiving is now primarily identified as a secular holiday.
Having just come from an awesome meal of talk and turkey and thanksgiving love I'm reminded of the real reason for it, for the tradition of the dinner, the thanks and the celebration.
Reminiscing of the dinners of my past, the meal, the cleaning up, the dishes, the leftovers that fill my childhood. . . . all of it, all of the details the preparation, the days before shopping, the washing and chopping of the vegetables and prepping of the various dishes, the discussion of what to serve, the setting of the table, making name cards and choosing a dinner table theme, cleaning and scrubbing the house for guests. Cooking and Baking the meal it self, creating food and conversation and free flowing wine. . . .and then the sharing circle
the moment of pause, to think, to share, what YOU are thankful for this year.
As time evolves, as our thanks changes and shifts with life, I do feel thankful to keep the tradition alive. Through childhood, uncomfortable teenage years and early adult life
I am grateful and thankful for my circle
I am grateful for tradition
and ultimately, I hope you are too

soup goodness

There are a few images and words that specifically say autumn. . . . the changing of the leaves, crisp cool air on your face, wearing a big scarf, the first fire in the fireplace, and a warm bowl of soup
especially if you are preparing to spend a long time outdoors, say for Nuit Blanche, or to go apple picking or a long walk in the park. . . . .
I have had a lot of people lately ask me what my favorite soup recipes are, as i do make a pretty awesome soup from time to time
so, here's what i made today, eaten with gooooey cheese and crusty grain bread!

a ton of garlic, chopped onion and some good olive oil, salt, pepper
brown together, and add sliced mushrooms, your choice
a good size piece of ginger
one chopped sweet potato
a butternut squash(peeled, chopped and de-seeded)
one chopped carrot
one chopped pear
and a ton of water(i also sprinkle a little maple syrup and cayenne)
add water as you need as the veggies become soft and absorb liquid
about 8 cups, watch and see. . . . . . .

i use a hand blender, stick it right in the pot and blend till smoooooth

while that's cooling and settling to the most amazing velvety consistency
i wash the butternut squash seeds, place them in a pan add oil, salt, pepper and cayenne
and broil till crunchy

ladle the soup into big mugs and add squash seeds for garnish!
yummmmmmmmmmmm
